Ingredients

1/2 cup whole wheat flour
1/2 cup white unbleached
1/2 teaspoons salt
1 Tablespoon olive oil
Extra olive oil
1/2 cup warm water

Directions

  • In a bowl, stir together the whole wheat flour, unbleached flour and salt and oil.
  • Add warm water to make a soft dough that is elastic but not sticky. Knead the dough on a lightly floured surface for about 5 to to 10 minutes or until it becomes smooth and elastic. Place in a bowl. Cover and let it rest in a warm place for about 20 to 30 minutes. Divide dough in 5 parts. Roll each piece into a ball. Let rest for a few minutes.
  • Heat a skillet over medium heat until hot, and grease lightly. On a lightly floured surface, use a rolling pin to roll out the balls of dough until very thin like a tortilla. When the pan is hot enough , put a chapati on it. Cook until the underside has brown spots, about 15 seconds, then flip and cook on the other side 20 second Continue to flip over about one or two more times until you achieve your desired brownness. Do the same with remaining dough. However, if you want a more flaky chapatti , follow the rest of the steps according to video. Serve warm and enjoy with your favorite dish.
